What the rules say
You don't need a formal qualification to offer general foot care, but you must never describe yourself as a "podiatrist" or "chiropodist" -- both are HCPC-protected titles. In practice, insurers, care homes and professional associations expect recognised training regardless. Public liability insurance remains legally optional for a sole trader but is about as close to essential as cover gets, given the physical contact involved in this work.
Quick answers
Do I need insurance to start a mobile foot care business in Eldindean?
Public liability insurance isn't a legal requirement as a sole trader, but it is close to essential given the hands-on, in-home nature of this work across Eldindean and Midlothian.
Do care homes in Eldindean expect any particular checks or certificates?
Many care homes across Eldindean expect to see evidence of relevant training, insurance, and often a DBS check before letting a practitioner treat residents -- it's worth having these ready before approaching local homes.
Can I treat diabetic clients as a non-HCPC foot care practitioner in Eldindean?
Many Foot Health Practitioners in Eldindean do work with diabetic clients, but for complex or high-risk diabetic foot conditions it's standard practice to involve the client's GP or a registered podiatrist rather than treat alone.
How often do foot care clients in Eldindean typically rebook?
Foot care is generally a recurring need every few weeks rather than a one-off treatment, which is one reason practitioners in Eldindean often build a predictable round of regular clients over time.
