Explore the full Foot Care Business Launch Kit — £22A mobile foot care business means travelling to clients rather than working from fixed premises -- and Fox Hills, like everywhere in the UK, has its own rules about what you can and can't call yourself. Here's the picture before your first visit in Somerset.
What the rules say
You don't need a formal qualification to offer general foot care, but you must never describe yourself as a "podiatrist" or "chiropodist" -- both are HCPC-protected titles. In practice, insurers, care homes and professional associations expect recognised training regardless. Public liability insurance remains legally optional for a sole trader but is about as close to essential as cover gets, given the physical contact involved in this work.
Quick answers
Do care homes in Fox Hills expect any particular checks or certificates?
Many care homes across Fox Hills expect to see evidence of relevant training, insurance, and often a DBS check before letting a practitioner treat residents -- it's worth having these ready before approaching local homes.
Can I treat diabetic clients as a non-HCPC foot care practitioner in Fox Hills?
Many Foot Health Practitioners in Fox Hills do work with diabetic clients, but for complex or high-risk diabetic foot conditions it's standard practice to involve the client's GP or a registered podiatrist rather than treat alone.
How often do foot care clients in Fox Hills typically rebook?
Foot care is generally a recurring need every few weeks rather than a one-off treatment, which is one reason practitioners in Fox Hills often build a predictable round of regular clients over time.
What equipment do I need to start in Fox Hills?
At minimum, practitioners starting out in Fox Hills need basic instruments, sterilisation equipment, and appropriate clinical waste arrangements -- the Foot Care Business Launch Kit sets out the full starter list.
