Foot Care Business Start-Up Guide for Furnace
What you can and can't call yourself before you start working in Furnace and Carmarthenshire.
See what's inside the Foot Care Business Launch Kit — £22A mobile foot care business means travelling to clients rather than working from fixed premises -- and Furnace, like everywhere in the UK, has its own rules about what you can and can't call yourself. Here's the picture before your first visit in Carmarthenshire.
What the rules say
You don't need a formal qualification to offer general foot care, but you must never describe yourself as a "podiatrist" or "chiropodist" -- both are HCPC-protected titles. In practice, insurers, care homes and professional associations expect recognised training regardless. Public liability insurance remains legally optional for a sole trader but is about as close to essential as cover gets, given the physical contact involved in this work.
Quick answers
Do care homes in Furnace expect any particular checks or certificates?
Many care homes across Furnace expect to see evidence of relevant training, insurance, and often a DBS check before letting a practitioner treat residents -- it's worth having these ready before approaching local homes.
Can I treat diabetic clients as a non-HCPC foot care practitioner in Furnace?
Many Foot Health Practitioners in Furnace do work with diabetic clients, but for complex or high-risk diabetic foot conditions it's standard practice to involve the client's GP or a registered podiatrist rather than treat alone.
How often do foot care clients in Furnace typically rebook?
Foot care is generally a recurring need every few weeks rather than a one-off treatment, which is one reason practitioners in Furnace often build a predictable round of regular clients over time.
What equipment do I need to start in Furnace?
At minimum, practitioners starting out in Furnace need basic instruments, sterilisation equipment, and appropriate clinical waste arrangements -- the Foot Care Business Launch Kit sets out the full starter list.
