Here's the picture before your first visit in Tunbridge Wells.
What the rules say
General foot care carries no statutory minimum qualification -- the hard line sits around the titles "podiatrist" and "chiropodist", which only HCPC-registered practitioners may use. Insurers, care homes and most professional bodies will nonetheless expect recognised training before they'll work with you. As a sole trader, public liability insurance stays optional in law but is close to essential given how hands-on this work is.
Quick answers
Do care homes in St James expect any particular checks or certificates?
Many care homes across St James expect to see evidence of relevant training, insurance, and often a DBS check before letting a practitioner treat residents -- it's worth having these ready before approaching local homes.
Can I treat diabetic clients as a non-HCPC foot care practitioner in St James?
Many Foot Health Practitioners in St James do work with diabetic clients, but for complex or high-risk diabetic foot conditions it's standard practice to involve the client's GP or a registered podiatrist rather than treat alone.
How often do foot care clients in St James typically rebook?
Foot care is generally a recurring need every few weeks rather than a one-off treatment, which is one reason practitioners in St James often build a predictable round of regular clients over time.
What equipment do I need to start in St James?
At minimum, practitioners starting out in St James need basic instruments, sterilisation equipment, and appropriate clinical waste arrangements -- the Foot Care Business Launch Kit sets out the full starter list.
