What the rules say
No single licence governs mobile hairdressing across the UK -- it comes down to the individual council, and byelaw registration requirements vary from area to area, some keeping them and some not. Confirming the position with your own local authority is essential before trading. Legally, no qualification is required, though HABIA-aligned NVQ/SVQ training remains the standard clients and insurers expect, especially for chemical and colour work.
Quick answers
How do I get my first clients as a mobile hairdresser in Coalbrookdale?
Most mobile hairdressers in Coalbrookdale build their first client base through personal networks, local social media groups, and word-of-mouth referrals. The Hairdressing Business Launch Kit covers a full marketing and client-building plan.
Is patch testing a legal requirement for mobile hairdressing in Coalbrookdale?
This is genuinely contested and depends on the specific product and service -- it isn't a single settled legal requirement everywhere in the UK, including Coalbrookdale. The Hairdressing Business Launch Kit sets out the honest, current picture rather than flattening it into a false yes or no.
Do I need insurance to start a mobile hairdressing business in Coalbrookdale?
It isn't a general legal requirement for a self-employed sole trader in Coalbrookdale, but it's near-universal commercial practice and often a condition set by clients such as care homes. Employers' liability insurance is a legal requirement once you take on staff.
Can I offer colour and chemical services from the start in Coalbrookdale?
Many mobile hairdressers in Coalbrookdale build up to colour and chemical services as experience and client trust grow, since these carry higher skill and liability considerations than cuts and styling alone.
