Explore the full Hairdressing Business Launch Kit — £22Thinking about starting a mobile hairdressing business in Turnhurst? This covers travelling to clients rather than working from a fixed salon -- including two genuinely contested questions, whether you need a council licence and whether patch testing is a legal requirement, before your first appointment in Turnhurst and the wider Stoke-on-Trent area.
What the rules say
No single licence governs mobile hairdressing across the UK -- it comes down to the individual council, and byelaw registration requirements vary from area to area, some keeping them and some not. Confirming the position with your own local authority is essential before trading. Legally, no qualification is required, though HABIA-aligned NVQ/SVQ training remains the standard clients and insurers expect, especially for chemical and colour work.
Quick answers
Can I offer colour and chemical services from the start in Turnhurst?
Many mobile hairdressers in Turnhurst build up to colour and chemical services as experience and client trust grow, since these carry higher skill and liability considerations than cuts and styling alone.
Do I need to charge for travel in Turnhurst?
Many mobile hairdressers in Turnhurst build a travel or call-out charge into how they structure appointments once they travel beyond their core local area, reflecting the time and mileage involved.
What records should I keep for clients in Turnhurst?
Keeping consultation and, where relevant, patch test records for clients in Turnhurst is standard practice and something insurers and professional bodies generally expect to see.
Do I need a council licence to be a mobile hairdresser in Turnhurst?
There's no single national licence. Some local authorities retain their own hairdressing/barbering byelaws requiring registration; others have deregulated entirely. Check directly with the council covering Turnhurst before you start trading.
