Do I Need a Licence for Mobile Beauty Treatments in the UK?

What UK local authority 'special treatment' licensing means for mobile beauty treatments, and why the answer depends on your specific council and treatment.

In London, several boroughs license 'special treatments' under the London Local Authorities Act 1991 — several boroughs explicitly list nail treatments as a licensable category for premises, with a confirmed mobile exemption for nail treatments specifically in named boroughs — but this exemption is not confirmed to extend automatically to every treatment this Kit covers; at least one borough's own list treats eyelash extensions differently from nails.

Outside London, there's no equivalent confirmed national scheme

Licensing, where it exists at all for these treatments, is local-council discretionary, under the general Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 framework (the same framework underlying Hairdressing's local byelaw position in this product).

Our honest recommendation

Contact your own local authority's licensing or environmental health team directly, ask the question in writing for each treatment you offer, and keep a record of the answer — don't assume mobile work is automatically exempt just because one council's wording is favourable.
