Do I Need Insurance as a Mobile Beauty Practitioner?

Legal vs. commercially expected insurance for mobile beauty practitioners in the UK, and why treatment-risk tiering matters.

Employers' liability insurance is a legal requirement, but only once you employ someone who isn't a close family member — a solo self-employed practitioner doesn't need it.

Public liability insurance is not a general legal requirement but is near-universal in practice.

Treatment-risk cover is tiered by treatment, not one flat product

  1. Nails, make-up application, and waxing are generally grouped as lower-risk.

  2. Treatments outside this Kit's scope (chemical peels, electrolysis, microdermabrasion, semi-permanent make-up, laser/IPL) sit in a higher tier.

If you later add one of those treatments, re-check your cover rather than assuming it extends automatically.

Cover is also commonly conditional on holding the qualification actually held for the specific treatment.
