Mobile Earwax Removal in Caldershaw
What the rules say
Before anything else in this category: resolve directly with the Care Quality Commission whether your specific business needs to register. CQC's published position is that earwax removal is a regulated activity only where a listed healthcare professional agrees and carries out the treatment -- how that applies to a non-HCPC-registered mobile practitioner is genuinely contested between sources, so this guide cannot give you a flat yes or no, and neither should anyone else without checking your specific circumstances with CQC. No qualification is a legal requirement for microsuction or ear irrigation, but training and insurance providers in practice expect one. DBS eligibility for this role is unresolved in current guidance -- use the official DBS eligibility checker rather than assuming either way. Public liability and professional indemnity cover aren't a legal must for a sole trader, but are widely treated as essential given the clinical nature of the work.
Questions about starting in Caldershaw
Do I need to register with the CQC to start a mobile earwax removal business in Caldershaw?
It depends on whether you, or anyone in your business, count as a listed healthcare professional under CQC's own test, and whether one is involved in agreeing and delivering the treatment. This genuinely isn't settled for every practitioner type -- contact CQC directly about your own circumstances in Caldershaw before taking any bookings.
Is microsuction or ear irrigation the safer method to offer in Caldershaw?
This is a clinical question this guide can't answer -- sources disagree, and the right method for a given client depends on their individual ear history. Whichever method(s) you offer in Caldershaw, make sure your training and insurance specifically cover it.
Do I need a qualification to remove earwax commercially in Caldershaw?
No qualification is legally required, but the training and insurance market in practice expects a recognised microsuction or irrigation course. There's no single confirmed UK-wide training standard, so check what your chosen insurer in Caldershaw actually requires for cover.
Do I need a DBS check to work as a mobile earwax removal practitioner in Caldershaw?
This is genuinely unclear from current published guidance. Rather than assuming either way, use the official DBS eligibility checker to confirm your position before working in Caldershaw.
